• WELCOME TO BUILDING AND CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT.

Available courses

The unit specifies the competencies required to demonstrate environmental literacy. It involves controlling environmental hazards, controlling environmental pollution, demonstrating sustainable resource use and evaluating current practices in relation to resource usage.

This unit covers the competencies required to prepare and apply technical drawing. It involves competencies in selecting, using and maintaining drawing equipment and
materials. It also involves developing plane geometry drawings, solid geometry drawings, pictorial and orthographic drawings.

By the end of the course unit, the trainer should be able to:

  1. Select, use and maintain drawing equipment and materials.
  2. Develop plane geometry drawings
  3. Develop solid geometry drawings
  4. Develop pictorial and Orthographic drawings

The course is more focussed on equiping the learners with what the modern day construction industry involves. In modern-day construction, sheathing the skeleton of the building is only the beginning; specialists then begin the bulk of the work inside, installing plumbing, electrical wiring, HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning), windowsfloor coverings, plasterwork, moldings, ceramic tile, cabinets, and other features.

Unit Description
This unit describes the competence in applying scientific principles. It involves applying principles of: units of measurements, force, work, energy and power, friction, heat, pressure in fluids, electrical and mechanical properties of materials.

By the end of the unit the trainee should be able to:

 1. Apply principles of units of measurements
2. Apply principles of Force, work, energy and power
3. Apply principles of Friction
4. Apply principles of heat
5. Apply principles of pressure in fluids
6. Apply mechanical properties of materials
